ESMAP Knowledge Exchange & Study Tour on Grid Digitalization and Cybersecurity

This knowledge exchange and study tour intends to draw insights from the experience of Italian companies in implementing digital transformation and cybersecurity readiness of the power sector to inform WBG’s client utilities and ministries in other countries on their own implementation plans. The content developed as part of the knowledge exchange and study tour may also be complemented by external BBLs and internal sessions for staff, for example during Energy week. This knowledge exchange and study tour is targeted at energy utilities (along with ministries and regulators) from ESMAP’s and World Bank’s client countries actively working on relevant grid digitalization and/or cybersecurity, with an emphasis on countries of high relevance to Italy (such as those included in the Enrico Mattei Plan). ​ This knowledge exchange and study tour will build on the past experience of ESMAP supported knowledge exchanges, including on themes such as digitalization, utility performance improvement, smart grids, and cybersecurity, bringing together utilities from World Bank client countries with global experts.

Overview

This knowledge exchange and study tour aims at providing first-hand insights into advanced practices for digital grid management, encompassing real-time monitoring, forecasting, automation, and predictive maintenance. ​ This knowledge exchange and study tour aims at providing an understanding of strategies, frameworks, and tools to enhance grid cybersecurity and resilience in the face of emerging threats. ​This knowledge exchange and study tour aims at exploring approaches for integrating distributed energy resources and learn how innovative business models, deployment of grid enhancing technologies to maximize use of the existing grid and partnerships can enable grid digitalization, particularly in the context of developing countries.​ This knowledge exchange and study tour aims at building peer-to-peer networks with international counterparts, fostering opportunities for ongoing collaboration, as well as networking opportunities.​ This knowledge exchange and study tour will take place at the end of May / early June and will tentatively include two locations, Rome and Milan, and will include targeted and relevant site visits and interactive learning approaches for clients. Complementary events may be organized as preparation or follow up to the event.
