Overview

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are critical to building a sustainable economy, representing 90% of businesses globally and over 50% of all employment. However, their access to finance—particularly in emerging markets—remains limited, hindering both business growth and sustainability initiatives. This self-paced training, developed by the IFC Green Bond Technical Assistance Program (GB-TAP), provides financial institutions with practical, step-by-step guidance to implement sustainable finance for MSMEs. It covers organizational preparation, evaluation and selection of projects, management of proceeds, and impact measurement and reporting. The training takes about 45 minutes and is accompanied by the Sustainable MSME Finance Reference Guide for ongoing use.
