Rapid urbanization in low- and middle-income countries has led to rising congestion, worsening air quality, and inequitable access to jobs. This program equips decision-makers with knowledge from the World Bank’s extensive experience designing urban transport solutions, creating stronger institutions, helping scale up mass transit investments, public transport reforms, non-motorized transport, active mobility, road safety, and smart mobility solutions.

Road crashes claim 1.19 million lives annually, with low and middle-income countries bearing over 90% of fatalities. This program is designed to help leaders scale up road safety investments and achieve the UN’s target of a 50% reduction in deaths and injuries by 2030. Participants will gain the skills needed to drive multi-sectoral road safety reforms effectively.

Global supply chains face disruptions from climate shocks, political instability, and shifting trade demands. This program equips decision-makers with a holistic understanding of regional connectivity, logistics, and trade facilitation. By fostering collaboration across stakeholders, it strengthens policy frameworks and infrastructure to enhance trade, reduce costs, and build resilient transport and logistics networks.

Transport infrastructure faces interrelated challenges: inadequate funding and the need for better asset management and resilience. This program tackles both themes to equip practitioners with strategies to mobilize public and private capital while enhancing road maintenance and long-term resilience. Topics include PPPs, project finance, road user charges, performance-based contracts, asset management, and disaster risk financing.

This course teaches how to plan and implement urban rail projects that address growing urban mobility demands sustainably. It guides participants through each phase of project development using global best practices and case studies. By completing the course, learners will gain the skills to develop urban rail systems that reduce congestion and improve urban quality of life.

This course explores the gender dimensions of mobility in the transport sector, highlighting how traditional planning often overlooks the specific needs of women and girls. It addresses the barriers women face in both using transportation systems and pursuing careers in the male-dominated transport industry. Through case studies and practical solutions, participants learn strategies to create a more inclusive, equitable transport sector.
