Accelerating Urban E-Mobility Solutions

The World Bank

Transport systems worldwide face mounting challenges, including rapid urbanization and worsening air pollution, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The transport sector is a major contributor to PM2.5 pollution, as well as nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides, impacting public health in urban areas. Transitioning to electric mobility (e-mobility) is critical to creating cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive urban transport networks. Transitioning to electric mobility (e-mobility) is critical to creating cleaner, more efficient, and inclusive urban transport networks.

In partnership with the University of California at Davis, the University of Southern California and their network of partners in the Global South; the International Union of Public Transport operators (UITP); and multiple other partners, Accelerating E-Mobility in Urban Contexts is a 12-month knowledge and leadership program designed to equip policymakers with the expertise, tools, and partnerships needed to scale up electric mobility solutions. The program blends peer-to-peer learning, expert-led webinars, and immersive study visits to provide participants with actionable strategies to boost e-mobility adoption in their cities and countries.

Participants will:

  • Gain practical knowledge on e-mobility policies, technologies, and financing strategies, as well as expert guidance on tailoring e-mobility solutions to their local contexts.
  • Identify key focus areas necessary for scaling e-mobility in their jurisdictions, including creating incentives for electric vehicle adoption, investing in charging infrastructure, and integrating e-mobility into broader urban planning initiatives.
  • Develop country- and city-specific action plans to implement e-mobility solutions, fostering public-private partnerships and cross-sector collaboration.
