Sustaining Health Financing

The World Bank

The World Bank
More than 4.5 billion people lack full coverage of essential health services, and 2 billion people face financial hardship due to out-of-pocket spending on health.

Sustained financing to support universal health coverage (UHC) allows countries to expand quality essential health services and ensure financial protection for the most vulnerable.

The Sustaining Health Financing Academy Impact program is designed to engage countries in developing sustainable financing strategies for UHC, based on best practices around the world and tailored to their specific contexts.

Decision-makers from ministries of health, finance and planning will:

  • Develop tailored approaches to improve equity and effectiveness of health financing
  • Strengthen public financial leadership for universal health coverage
  • Enable integrated governance and policy dialogue between key ministries

Program initiation: September 2025, Tokyo

Participating countries: Cambodia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Philippines
