The Kenyan agricultural sector faces significant challenges due to a lack of accurate, timely weather data and its integration with agricultural research for decision-making. To address this, KALRO, supported by the World Bank, has launched a Big Data platform that combines agro-weather, market, and farmer data to support agriculture transformation. This platform provides farmers with customized, geospatial agro-weather updates, market information, and climate-smart agronomic advisories, all accessible through mobile apps, web portals, and SMS. The initiative has reached over eight million smallholder farmers, empowering them with the data needed to improve productivity. In a webinar, experts discuss how Kenya’s approach, including the One Million Farmer Platform, can be scaled to benefit other countries across Africa and beyond, using data and digitization to transform agriculture.
