Utility Finance Academy

This series focusing on Utility Finance is geared towards operational staff from World Bank client utilities, ministries, regulators, or other entities, who would benefit from a better understanding of financial analysis & modeling for power utilities. Participants will strengthen their understanding of the fundamentals of corporate finance and how these apply to power utilities. Some iterations of this Academy will be offered in French.

Overview

This series will help participants build working financial models and use these to inform their own analysis and decision-making. Utility financial analysis: Corporate finance and the three statements; getting from utility financials to sector cash flows; assessing utility performance & diagnosing problems; capital planning & intro to project finance for utilities. Utility financial modeling: Setting up 3-statement financial models; fixing errors in financial models; advanced topics on how to model tariff setting, AT&C losses, debt schedules, FX fluctuations, and other drivers of utility financial performance. Financial decision-making & communication: Building scenarios in financial models & communicating results to inform sector decision-making and improve stakeholder communication.
