The One Health concept recognizes the deep interconnection between human, animal, and ecosystem health, where positive interactions sustain life, but changes can introduce risks like zoonotic diseases. Recent pandemics, such as COVID-19, have underscored the need for better prevention and preparedness systems. The module outlines the One Health approach and its value, exploring how it can improve the detection, response, and recovery from health threats at human-animal-environment interfaces. It also uses visual models to demonstrate the cost of inaction and how considering broader societal benefits can optimize resource allocation. The module further explores World Bank projects that implement One Health and presents the World Bank’s One Health Operational Framework to support its integration in development projects, with a foundation for future e-learning on practical application.
