Barcelona Competitiveness Summer School

This program focuses on the fundamentals of job creation and prosperity. The program emphasizes the government's role in this endeavor through soft industrial policy investments and policy reforms, identified at the cluster level in collaboration with the private sector and scaled up to redefine the country’s industrial policies

This program combines three days of in-person sessions at IESE Business School in Barcelona with two field visits:

Module 1—Cluster Policies: Case studies to introduce agglomeration economics, industrial districts, or clusters
Module 2—Industry Analysis: The concepts of Industrial Organization and competition within a specific industry, applying Porter’s 5 forces to multiple examples.
Module 3—Sustainability: This module introduces the concept of sustainability as a component of company and cluster strategies.
Two field visits: to a Common Cross-Cutting Technology Infrastructure in Girona that supports the Catalan Water Partnership in making all clusters more sustainable; and to a Cluster Organization and its Shared Services, in Igualada, visiting the technology center, university, and joint environmental facility of the Leather Cluster in Igualada.
